Senior Database Administrator

Role Description The Senior Database Administrator is a part-time, remote role responsible for overseeing the reliability, performance, and security of the organization’s database environments. Day-to-day tasks include managing and monitoring production databases, configuring and optimizing database instances, and ensuring data integrity and availability. The role involves designing and maintaining database schemas, implementing backup and recovery strategies, and setting up and monitoring replication and high-availability solutions. The Senior Database Administrator will troubleshoot complex database issues, collaborate with development and infrastructure teams on performance tuning, and implement best practices for data access and storage. This position also contributes to documentation, process improvement, and guidance to junior team members as needed.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong skills in Database Administration and Databases, including monitoring, maintenance, backup, and recovery.
• Candidates should possess skills in Database Design and data modeling to create scalable, efficient, and secure structures.
• Candidates should possess advanced Troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve performance, availability, and configuration issues.
• Candidates should possess experience with Replication and high-availability configurations to ensure continuity and resilience of data services.
• Relevant experience with major relational database platforms (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle) and knowledge of SQL and query optimization.
• Familiarity with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL) and infrastructure-as-code or automation tools is beneficial.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work independently in a remote, part-time environment and collaborate across diverse teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; prior senior or lead DBA experience is preferred.
