We are seeking an experienced Senior Goodwill Valuation Testing Specialist to perform and oversee goodwill impairment assessments, valuation analyses, and financial modeling in accordance with applicable accounting standards. The role focuses on evaluating cash-generating units (CGUs), reviewing forecast assumptions, assessing discount rates and terminal values, and determining whether recorded goodwill remains recoverable. Working remotely from the UAE, you will collaborate with finance, accounting, valuation, corporate development, and external audit teams to support accurate financial reporting and transparent impairment testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and coordinate annual and event-driven goodwill impairment assessments.
  • Evaluate the allocation of goodwill to cash-generating units or groups of CGUs.
  • Develop and review discounted cash flow (DCF) models for goodwill impairment testing.
  • Assess recoverable amounts using value-in-use and fair-value-less-costs-of-disposal methodologies, as applicable.
  • Review business plans, financial forecasts, revenue projections, operating margins, and long-term growth assumptions.
  • Evaluate the reasonableness of key valuation inputs, including discount rates, terminal growth rates, and forecast periods.
  • Calculate and review weighted average cost of capital (WACC) and other relevant discount rate assumptions.
  • Conduct sensitivity and scenario analyses to identify the impact of changes in key assumptions on impairment outcomes.
  • Assess headroom between carrying amounts and recoverable amounts.
  • Identify indicators of potential goodwill impairment arising from market conditions, business performance, operational changes, or strategic developments.
  • Review historical forecasting accuracy and compare prior projections with actual financial performance.
  • Analyze the financial performance of acquired businesses and assess the continued support for recorded goodwill balances.
  • Evaluate the consistency of valuation methodologies and assumptions across reporting periods and business units.
  • Review acquisition-related information, purchase price allocation records, and goodwill allocation schedules.
  • Prepare impairment testing workpapers, valuation summaries, and supporting financial documentation.
  • Coordinate with finance teams to validate forecast inputs, carrying values, and relevant balance sheet information.
  • Support internal and external audit reviews by explaining valuation methodologies, assumptions, calculations, and sensitivity results.
  • Identify weaknesses in impairment testing processes and recommend improvements to valuation controls and documentation.
  • Monitor changes in relevant accounting standards and valuation practices affecting goodwill impairment assessments.
  • Prepare management reports highlighting impairment risks, valuation sensitivities, and potential financial statement impacts.
  • Maintain clear audit trails of assumptions, model versions, supporting evidence, and review conclusions.
  • Manage multiple impairment testing assignments while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and reporting deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, ACA, CFA, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Valuation, or Business Administration is an advantage.
  • Significant experience in goodwill impairment testing, business valuation, financial modeling, corporate finance, or audit.
  • Strong understanding of goodwill accounting and impairment requirements under IAS 36 and other applicable reporting frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience performing or reviewing impairment assessments for CGUs or groups of CGUs.
  • Advanced knowledge of DCF valuation and recoverable amount calculations.
  • Strong understanding of value-in-use and fair-value-less-costs-of-disposal methodologies.
  • Experience calculating discount rates, WACC, terminal values, and long-term growth assumptions.
  • Ability to assess financial forecasts, business plans, and valuation assumptions critically.
  • Experience conducting sensitivity analysis, scenario modeling, and impairment headroom assessments.
  • Familiarity with purchase price allocation, acquisition accounting, and goodwill allocation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling tools.
  • Familiarity with valuation databases, ERP systems, and financial reporting platforms.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent technical writing and financial documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex valuation findings to senior finance and business stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail, professional integrity, and sound professional judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple assignments in a fully remote environment.
What We Offer
  • A fully remote, work-from-home position based in the UAE.
  • Competitive compensation aligned with experience and qualifications.
  • Opportunities to contribute to financial reporting, valuation, and impairment assessment processes.
  • Collaboration with finance, accounting, valuation, and audit professionals.
  • Professional development in business valuation, financial modeling, and accounting standards.
