Telemedicine Medical Officer & Postgraduate Exam Tutor
Nigeria (85% Remote) | Full-time
We are recruiting a Medical Officer & Medical Educator on behalf of two partner organisations: a Health Management Organisation (HMO) and a well-established medical training platform that prepares doctors around the world for foreign postgraduate medical examinations.
This is a full-time role and about 85% of the work is remote. It combines clinical work, teaching and leadership.
The role
Most of your clinical work will be with the HMO. You will see its patients daily through telemedicine. That means taking histories, assessing patients, advising them, prescribing where appropriate and referring when necessary. You will also advise the HMO’s clinical and operations teams on medical matters, help improve its protocols and standards of care, and keep accurate, confidential patient records.
With the training platform, you will tutor doctors preparing for postgraduate exams such as MRCP, MRCS, MRCOG, MRCPCH, PLAB and USMLE. Sessions will be one-to-one and in groups. You will monitor each learner’s progress and adjust your teaching accordingly.
You will also lead meetings, coordinate staff, tutors and learners, and deal with clinical, academic and operational problems as they come up. We will train you to find grant opportunities and to write grant applications and proposals.
Around 15% of the role involves in-person assignments. Transport and accommodation are provided for these.
For doctors planning to work in the UK or US
This role suits doctors who intend to practise in the UK or the US in future. Teaching postgraduate exam content every day will support your own preparation for exams such as PLAB, MRCP and USMLE. You will also gain teaching, leadership, quality improvement, grant writing and telemedicine experience, which will strengthen your CV for those pathways.
Requirements
- MBBS/MBChB with a minimum of 2 years’ post-graduation experience
- Full, current registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), in good standing
- Confidence conducting patient consultations independently
- A strong academic record (distinctions, prizes, strong exam results or publications)
- Excellent written and spoken English, and the ability to explain complex topics clearly
- Excellent teaching skills
- Leadership and people management experience
- Good problem-solving skills
- Evidence of good character
It would be an advantage if you have passed a foreign postgraduate exam or part of one (e.g., PLAB 1, MRCP Part 1, USMLE Step 1), have teaching or tutoring experience, have worked in telemedicine or with an HMO, or have some experience in research or grant writing.
Terms
- Remuneration: USD 250 per month
- Full-time, 85% remote
- 12-month initial contract, reviewed every three months, with the possibility of a permanent role
- Transport and accommodation provided for work travel
- Start date: Immediately
Character verification
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide two professional references, including at least one from a senior clinician / a Certificate of Good Standing from the MDCN / a police clearance certificate.
