Vice President of Engineering

Role Description The Vice President of Engineering is a part-time, hybrid role based in Abu Dhabi, with flexibility for some work from home. This role is responsible for overseeing engineering strategy and execution across platforms and systems that support training, research, and program delivery. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading engineering teams, setting technical direction, guiding software and product development roadmaps, and ensuring alignment with institutional goals. The Vice President of Engineering will collaborate with academic, operations, and product stakeholders to define requirements, prioritize projects, and manage resources and timelines. The role also involves establishing best practices in engineering management, mentoring team members, implementing quality and security standards, and supporting partnerships that advance the Institute’s digital and technical capabilities.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering management and team leadership skills, with experience building and mentoring high-performing technical teams.
• Proficiency in software development and product development, including guiding architecture, design, and lifecycle management of digital platforms.
• Demonstrated project management capabilities, with a track record of delivering complex engineering initiatives on time and within scope.
• Experience working in or with education, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or biomedical sectors is highly beneficial.
• Ability to operate effectively in a hybrid work environment, collaborating across diverse, cross-functional, and geographically distributed teams.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and strategic planning skills, with the ability to translate institutional vision into technical roadmaps.
• Advanced degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field; leadership experience at the director or VP level is an advantage.
• Commitment to inclusive leadership, ethical practices, and supporting capacity building for professionals across Africa.
