Company Overview

We are working with an innovative, growing engineering and manufacturing business specialising in the design, development and production of complex engineered systems.

The company is expanding its manufacturing operations and investing in its production capabilities to support continued growth.

With a strong focus on technical excellence, operational efficiency and continuous improvement, the business offers an excellent opportunity to join a skilled engineering team and play an important role in developing and optimising manufacturing processes.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Production Engineer to join an expanding engineering and manufacturing team based in London.

This role will focus on developing, implementing and improving manufacturing processes, production layouts and operational efficiency across the business.

Working closely with engineering, manufacturing and production teams, you will be responsible for designing efficient production processes, supporting Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) activities and identifying opportunities to improve productivity, quality and cost-effectiveness.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Production Engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges, improving manufacturing operations and contributing to the development of efficient production systems within a growing engineering business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and optimise manufacturing production lines, workstations and production layouts to support efficient operations.
  • Review and improve manufacturing processes, identifying opportunities to increase productivity, reduce costs and eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Work closely with design and engineering teams to provide Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) input throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Support the transition of products and assemblies from initial development through to established manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluate manufacturing methods, materials and production techniques to improve manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Apply value engineering principles to optimise component designs, manufacturing processes and overall production costs.
  • Monitor production performance, identifying bottlenecks, capacity constraints and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) monitoring and improvement initiatives.
  • Support the efficient operation of manufacturing equipment, production workstations and material flow processes.
  • Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Support manufacturing activities involving machining, welding, fabrication, laser cutting and mechanical assembly.
  • Utilise MRP/ERP systems to support production planning, manufacturing operations and process improvements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, cost reduction and operational efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, quality and manufacturing teams to ensure production processes meet technical and operational requirements.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a similar role within an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, welding, fabrication and mechanical assembly.
  • Proven experience designing, developing or improving manufacturing production lines, workstations or production layouts.
  • Experience applying Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles within engineering or manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify manufacturing inefficiencies and implement effective process improvements.
  • Experience supporting products through development and into established manufacturing operations.
  • Good understanding of production planning, manufacturing workflows and material flow optimisation.
  • Experience using MRP/ERP systems within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a practical approach to resolving production challenges.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, production and operational teams.

Desirable:

  • Experience manufacturing complex mechanical or electro-mechanical equipment and assemblies.
  • Familiarity with Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), production performance monitoring and manufacturing KPIs.
  • Experience with new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing scale-up.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and value engineering methodologies.
  • Experience working in a mixed manufacturing environment involving machining, welding, laser cutting and assembly.
  • Previous involvement in factory layout planning, workstation design or production capacity improvements.
  • Experience supporting prototype development, low-volume production or the introduction of new manufacturing processes.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the confidence to challenge existing processes and recommend improvements.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary of £50,000–£70,000 depending on experience.
  • Equity or share option opportunities.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Generous annual leave arrangements.
  • Relocation support where applicable.
  • Opportunity to work on technically challenging engineering and manufacturing projects.
  • The chance to influence production processes, manufacturing layouts and operational efficiency.
  • A varied role combining manufacturing engineering, process optimisation and continuous improvement.
  • A collaborative engineering environment offering opportunities for professional development and progression.
