The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Driver Interior Architecture Manager to lead the planning, design, development, integration, and optimization of driver-focused interior environments across vehicles and transportation platforms.
The ideal candidate will combine interior architecture, human factors, ergonomics, design, engineering, and operational requirements to create driver environments that support safety, visibility, comfort, usability, accessibility, technology integration, and overall vehicle performance.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement driver interior architecture strategies aligned with vehicle, mobility, safety, and customer-experience objectives.
- Lead driver-environment design from early concept development through detailed design, prototyping, testing, production, and lifecycle improvement.
- Define driver interior architecture requirements covering ergonomics, usability, visibility, comfort, safety, accessibility, storage, controls, and technology integration.
- Develop driver cockpit and cabin concepts based on operational requirements, vehicle architecture, user needs, and target applications.
- Coordinate spatial planning for driver seating, controls, displays, instrument panels, consoles, storage, equipment, and access areas.
- Apply human-factors and ergonomic principles to optimize driver posture, reach, visibility, movement, and interaction with vehicle systems.
- Conduct driver task analysis, workflow studies, usability assessments, and ergonomic evaluations.
- Define driver sightlines, viewing zones, mirror requirements, camera-display interfaces, and visibility considerations.
- Coordinate integration of steering controls, pedals, gear selectors, switches, displays, infotainment, communication systems, and driver-assistance interfaces.
- Work with engineering teams to ensure interior architecture is compatible with vehicle packaging, structural constraints, electrical systems, thermal systems, and manufacturing requirements.
- Develop interior layouts, design concepts, technical requirements, specifications, and design standards.
- Coordinate 2D drawings, 3D models, digital mock-ups, prototypes, physical mock-ups, and design reviews.
- Lead design reviews with industrial designers, automotive engineers, human-factors specialists, manufacturing teams, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure driver interiors support safe and intuitive interaction with vehicle controls and information systems.
- Coordinate human-machine interface requirements with HMI, software, electrical, electronics, and digital-product teams.
- Integrate displays, instrument clusters, head-up displays, cameras, sensors, connectivity, navigation, communications, and other driver technologies.
- Support design of interiors for conventional, electric, autonomous, commercial, fleet, specialty, and emerging mobility vehicles where applicable.
- Evaluate requirements associated with different driver profiles, vehicle missions, operating environments, and duty cycles.
- Incorporate accessibility and inclusive-design principles where applicable.
- Coordinate material, finish, color, trim, surface, and component-selection decisions for driver environments.
- Evaluate materials based on durability, cleanability, tactile performance, environmental resistance, weight, cost, sustainability, and manufacturing requirements.
- Coordinate lighting, acoustic, thermal, ventilation, and environmental-comfort requirements within the driver environment.
- Ensure driver interiors support appropriate thermal comfort, glare control, acoustic performance, and environmental conditions.
- Review component interfaces and identify packaging conflicts, ergonomic risks, visibility limitations, and usability issues.
- Conduct design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly reviews with manufacturing and production-engineering teams.
- Support prototype development, fit-and-finish reviews, first-article evaluations, and production validation.
- Coordinate testing of driver interiors under representative operating conditions.
- Evaluate vibration, noise, thermal exposure, contamination, wear, durability, and other environmental factors affecting interior performance.
- Support validation of driver visibility, control reach, seating position, ingress and egress, and operator comfort.
- Coordinate safety assessments associated with driver seating, restraints, controls, impact zones, emergency access, and interior components.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable vehicle safety, ergonomic, accessibility, material, and regulatory requirements.
- Work with certification and compliance teams to address applicable automotive and transportation standards.
- Manage interior architecture requirements, specifications, design documentation, and configuration baselines.
- Establish design standards and reusable architectural principles across vehicle programs.
- Manage design changes, engineering changes, configuration control, and technical approvals.
- Evaluate design alternatives using performance, ergonomics, manufacturability, cost, weight, durability, and customer-experience criteria.
- Lead value-engineering initiatives while protecting safety, functionality, quality, and driver experience.
- Collaborate with Procurement and suppliers on component sourcing, materials, tooling, prototypes, and production readiness.
- Manage interior suppliers, design partners, engineering consultants, and specialist vendors.
- Define supplier requirements, technical deliverables, quality expectations, development milestones, and acceptance criteria.
- Monitor supplier performance, design quality, delivery schedules, technical issues, and corrective actions.
- Support vehicle manufacturing and assembly teams during pilot builds, production launches, and ramp-up.
- Investigate interior-related production issues, fitment problems, ergonomic concerns, quality defects, and field feedback.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Gather driver and operator feedback and translate insights into design improvements.
- Support field evaluations, fleet trials, customer demonstrations, and operational testing.
- Coordinate with Safety, Quality, Operations, Fleet, Maintenance, and Customer Experience teams to identify improvement opportunities.
- Evaluate emerging technologies including advanced displays, augmented-reality interfaces, intelligent controls, connected interiors, AI-assisted systems, and autonomous-driving interfaces.
- Explore sustainable materials, lightweight construction, modular interiors, recycled content, and circular-design approaches.
- Develop technology and design roadmaps for future driver interior platforms.
- Maintain project schedules, budgets, resources, risks, technical dependencies, and development milestones.
- Prepare executive presentations, technical reports, design reviews, risk assessments, and development recommendations.

The successful candidate should have strong experience in automotive interior architecture, vehicle interior design, transportation design, industrial design, human factors, ergonomics, automotive engineering, or mobility product development, preferably involving driver-focused environments or complex vehicle interiors.
The candidate should demonstrate:
- Proven experience leading vehicle interior architecture or driver-environment development.
- Strong understanding of automotive interior design, packaging, ergonomics, and human factors.
- Experience developing cockpit, cabin, console, instrument-panel, seating, and driver-interface concepts.
- Strong knowledge of driver visibility, reach, posture, seating, ingress, egress, and usability requirements.
- Experience working with automotive engineering, manufacturing, HMI, electrical, electronics, safety, and quality teams.
- Strong understanding of materials, finishes, trim, durability, manufacturing processes, and interior component integration.
- Experience with physical mock-ups, digital prototypes, CAD, 3D visualization, and design-review processes.
