  • Develop and review analytical procedures, work instructions, testing protocols, and laboratory standard operating procedures.
  • Establish appropriate quality-control procedures for laboratory testing and analytical processes.
  • Monitor internal quality-control results and investigate trends, shifts, biases, and out-of-control events.
  • Participate in external quality-assessment, proficiency-testing, and interlaboratory comparison programs.
  • Investigate nonconformities, analytical errors, specimen issues, instrument failures, and unexpected results.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Track corrective actions through completion and verify their effectiveness.
  • Monitor laboratory quality indicators and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Support laboratory audits, inspections, accreditation activities, and regulatory assessments.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, quality documentation, equipment logs, validation records, and analytical documentation.
  • Ensure laboratory activities comply with applicable professional, regulatory, quality, safety, and organizational requirements.
  • Follow appropriate biosafety, chemical-safety, infection-control, and laboratory-risk-management procedures.
  • Handle biological specimens, chemicals, reagents, and laboratory materials safely and appropriately.
  • Maintain appropriate controls for potentially infectious, hazardous, toxic, or otherwise restricted laboratory materials.
  • Ensure laboratory waste is segregated, stored, handled, and disposed of according to approved procedures.
  • Support laboratory emergency procedures involving spills, exposure incidents, equipment failures, power interruptions, and other operational disruptions.
  • Contribute to laboratory workflow planning, workload allocation, turnaround-time management, and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor test volumes, pending workloads, turnaround times, staffing requirements, and capacity constraints.
  • Support prioritization of urgent, critical, or time-sensitive laboratory testing.
  • Collaborate with physicians, pathologists, nurses, researchers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals where applicable.
