The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Radiographer to provide advanced diagnostic imaging services, clinical leadership, technical expertise, patient care, quality assurance, and professional supervision across radiography operations.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in diagnostic imaging procedures, radiation safety, image quality, equipment operation, patient positioning, clinical protocols, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The role will also support junior radiographers, workflow optimization, equipment quality, and continuous improvement of imaging services.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform a broad range of diagnostic radiographic examinations in accordance with approved clinical protocols.
• Review imaging requests and clinical indications to ensure examinations are appropriate and properly prepared.
• Verify patient identity, examination details, clinical history, and relevant safety information before imaging.
• Explain procedures clearly to patients and obtain appropriate cooperation and informed consent where required.
• Assess patient condition, mobility, pain, communication needs, and other factors that may affect examination safety.
• Position patients accurately to obtain diagnostically useful images while maintaining comfort and dignity.
• Operate radiographic imaging equipment safely and effectively.
• Perform routine and specialized X-ray examinations according to departmental standards.
• Support imaging procedures involving trauma, emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and complex patients.
• Perform portable and mobile radiography examinations where required.
• Provide imaging support in operating theatres, intensive care, emergency departments, wards, and other clinical environments where applicable.
• Apply appropriate exposure factors and imaging techniques to achieve diagnostic image quality while minimizing radiation exposure.
• Review acquired images for positioning, exposure, artifacts, and diagnostic adequacy before completing examinations.
• Repeat images only when clinically justified and in accordance with radiation-protection principles.
• Maintain high standards of image quality and consistency across examinations.
• Support specialized imaging modalities within professional competence, training, and applicable licensing requirements.
• Assist with fluoroscopy, contrast-enhanced examinations, or other specialized procedures where appropriately qualified.
• Prepare patients for contrast-related procedures and follow established safety and monitoring protocols where applicable.
• Identify relevant contraindications, precautions, allergies, pregnancy considerations, and other clinical risks before imaging.
• Escalate abnormal patient conditions, safety concerns, or unexpected clinical findings through appropriate clinical channels.
• Provide appropriate support to patients experiencing pain, anxiety, mobility limitations, or communication difficulties.
• Maintain patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and professional standards throughout every examination.
• Apply radiation-protection principles for patients, staff, visitors, and other individuals in controlled imaging areas.
• Follow ALARA principles and approved radiation-safety procedures.
• Monitor compliance with radiation-protection policies, dose-reduction protocols, and local regulatory requirements.
• Maintain appropriate use of personal protective equipment and radiation-protection devices.
• Participate in radiation-safety audits, monitoring programs, and corrective actions.
• Conduct equipment safety checks and report equipment faults, malfunctions, or performance concerns promptly.
• Perform routine quality-control checks according to departmental procedures and equipment requirements.
• Coordinate with medical physics, biomedical engineering, equipment suppliers, and technical support teams when required.
• Support preventive maintenance, calibration, servicing, and performance testing of imaging equipment.
• Ensure imaging rooms, accessories, positioning aids, and protective equipment are maintained in safe working condition.
• Monitor equipment availability and report downtime or operational issues affecting patient services.
• Maintain accurate examination records, technical documentation, quality-control records, and incident reports.
• Ensure imaging procedures and documentation are accurately recorded in approved clinical information systems.
• Support PACS, RIS, electronic medical records, and digital imaging workflows.
• Verify that images are correctly identified, labeled, transferred, stored, and accessible to authorized clinical users.
• Identify and address image-transfer, data-quality, workflow, and system-related issues.
• Collaborate with radiologists and clinical teams to ensure imaging protocols meet diagnostic requirements.
• Participate in multidisciplinary discussions regarding complex imaging cases where appropriate.
• Support urgent and emergency imaging workflows and prioritize examinations according to clinical requirements.
• Coordinate imaging schedules and patient flow to minimize delays and optimize departmental capacity.
• Assist with workload allocation and daily operational coordination within the radiography team.
• Supervise and support junior radiographers, radiography assistants, students, and trainees.
• Provide clinical guidance, technical coaching, and practical instruction to less-experienced team members.
• Participate in competency assessments, clinical supervision, orientation, and professional development programs.
• Contribute to the development and review of radiography protocols, procedures, checklists, and standard operating practices.
• Promote evidence-based imaging practices and remain current with developments in radiography technology and clinical techniques.
• Participate in clinical audits, image-quality reviews, radiation-dose reviews, and quality-improvement initiatives.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, repeat-examination trends, equipment failures, and other imaging-related quality issues.
• Conduct root-cause analysis and support corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor trends in image quality, repeat rates, patient complaints, radiation dose, equipment performance, and workflow efficiency.
• Support infection-prevention and control procedures for imaging equipment, rooms, and patient-contact surfaces.
• Follow appropriate procedures for imaging patients with infectious, isolation, or special clinical requirements.
• Support emergency preparedness and safe response to equipment failures, patient deterioration, fire, power interruption, and other operational incidents.
• Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare, radiation-safety, professional, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
• Maintain professional licensure, certifications, competency requirements, and continuing professional development.
• Participate in departmental meetings, service reviews, audits, training programs, and improvement projects.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate should have strong experience in diagnostic radiography, medical imaging, hospital radiology, clinical imaging services, or related healthcare environments, preferably with experience across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, trauma, or specialized imaging settings.

The candidate should demonstrate:

• Appropriate professional qualification in Radiography, Medical Imaging, or a related discipline.
• Valid professional registration or licensure applicable to the relevant jurisdiction.
• Strong practical experience performing diagnostic radiographic examinations.
• Comprehensive knowledge of radiographic positioning, exposure techniques, image evaluation, and radiation protection.
• Experience working with digital radiography and modern imaging systems.
• Strong understanding of radiation-safety principles and dose optimization.
• Experience performing mobile and emergency radiography where applicable.
• Ability to manage complex, critically ill, immobile, pediatric, elderly, or high-risk patients.
