The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Speech Therapist to provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis support, therapy, rehabilitation, clinical education, and professional guidance for individuals with communication, speech, language, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing needs.

The ideal candidate will combine strong clinical expertise with excellent assessment, therapeutic, communication, documentation, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills. The role requires a patient-centered approach and strict adherence to professional, ethical, clinical, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive speech, language, communication, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing assessments within professional scope.
• Review relevant medical, developmental, educational, behavioral, and functional information.
• Conduct clinical interviews with patients, families, caregivers, and relevant professionals.
• Use appropriate standardized and non-standardized assessment tools and techniques.
• Evaluate speech production, articulation, fluency, receptive language, expressive language, cognition, voice, and communication functionality.
• Assess swallowing and feeding abilities where appropriately qualified and within professional scope.
• Identify communication and swallowing-related needs and develop individualized intervention plans.
• Establish measurable therapy goals in collaboration with patients, families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Deliver evidence-based speech, language, communication, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing interventions.
• Provide individual and group therapy according to patient needs and clinical requirements.
• Support patients with developmental, neurological, acquired, medical, and functional communication disorders.
• Provide appropriate therapy for articulation, language, fluency, voice, and cognitive-communication difficulties.
• Support communication rehabilitation following neurological injury or disease where within clinical competence.
• Provide feeding and swallowing intervention where appropriately trained and licensed.
• Develop individualized home-practice and communication-support programs.
• Educate patients and caregivers on therapeutic techniques, communication strategies, and appropriate home support.
• Monitor patient progress through structured assessments, clinical observations, functional measures, and outcome indicators.
• Review and adjust therapy plans based on clinical response and changing patient needs.
• Document assessment findings, clinical observations, interventions, progress, goals, and follow-up plans accurately.
• Maintain timely and comprehensive clinical records in accordance with professional standards.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, dietitians, educators, and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and contribute speech-therapy expertise to patient-care planning.
• Communicate clinical findings and recommendations clearly to patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare teams.
• Identify patients who may require additional medical, neurological, psychological, nutritional, or specialist assessment.
• Coordinate referrals to appropriate healthcare professionals when needs fall outside the speech therapist's scope.
• Support communication and swallowing needs during care transitions and rehabilitation programs.
• Identify aspiration, feeding, communication, or functional risks and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Follow established patient-safety, safeguarding, infection-control, and clinical-escalation procedures.
• Support development of individualized communication strategies for patients with complex communication needs.
• Evaluate and recommend appropriate augmentative and alternative communication solutions where applicable.
• Support the selection and use of communication aids, assistive technologies, and relevant digital tools.
• Provide guidance to caregivers, teachers, support workers, and healthcare professionals on communication-support strategies.
• Develop therapy resources, educational materials, home programs, communication guides, and clinical reference materials.
• Deliver workshops, caregiver education sessions, professional presentations, and community programs where appropriate.
• Support early-intervention, rehabilitation, developmental, and preventive communication programs.
• Review relevant clinical guidelines, research, and scientific literature to maintain evidence-based practice.
• Apply current evidence and professional standards to assessment and intervention decisions.
• Participate in clinical audits, service evaluations, outcomes monitoring, and quality-improvement initiatives.
• Establish and monitor appropriate clinical outcome measures and therapy-performance indicators.
• Analyze therapy outcomes, patient feedback, referral trends, and service data.
• Identify opportunities to improve clinical pathways, therapy programs, patient engagement, and service accessibility.
• Contribute to the development and review of clinical protocols, SOPs, assessment pathways, and therapy standards.
• Support telehealth and remote speech-therapy services where clinically appropriate and permitted.
• Ensure remote services maintain appropriate clinical, privacy, documentation, and emergency-escalation standards.
• Mentor junior speech therapists, assistants, interns, or other relevant team members.
• Provide clinical guidance and case consultation within appropriate professional and supervisory frameworks.
• Support peer review, clinical case discussions, professional education, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Maintain appropriate professional registration, continuing education, and clinical competency.
• Build effective relationships with patients, families, healthcare providers, schools, referral partners, and community organizations.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate should have strong experience in speech and language therapy, speech-language pathology, communication disorders, swallowing rehabilitation, pediatric therapy, adult rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, or related clinical services, preferably within hospitals, rehabilitation centers, clinics, schools, healthcare organizations, or multidisciplinary care environments.

The candidate should demonstrate:

• Relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in Speech Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, or an appropriate related discipline.
• Appropriate professional registration, licensing, or certification required for the relevant jurisdiction.
• Proven experience conducting speech, language, communication, voice, or swallowing assessments.
• Strong understanding of speech and language development, communication disorders, and rehabilitation principles.
• Experience developing individualized therapy plans and measurable clinical goals.
• Strong knowledge of evidence-based speech and language interventions.
• Experience supporting patients with developmental, neurological, acquired, medical, or functional communication needs.
