About UsWe are seeking an experienced and analytical Senior Counterparty Exposure Measurement Specialist to measure, monitor, and manage counterparty credit exposures across financial transactions, derivatives, securities financing, and other relevant portfolios. This role supports effective credit risk management by ensuring exposure calculations are accurate, risk-sensitive, and aligned with internal risk policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will collaborate with counterparty credit risk, trading, treasury, collateral management, quantitative analytics, and regulatory reporting teams to identify potential exposure concentrations, assess risk mitigation effectiveness, and strengthen exposure monitoring and reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities- Exposure Measurement: Calculate and monitor current exposure, potential future exposure (PFE), expected exposure, and other relevant counterparty credit risk measures across financial products and portfolios.
- Counterparty Risk Analysis: Assess exposures to banks, financial institutions, corporates, brokers, clearing houses, and other counterparties.
- Derivatives Exposure: Analyze counterparty exposures arising from interest rate swaps, foreign exchange contracts, credit derivatives, equity derivatives, and other over-the-counter and exchange-traded products.
- Securities Financing: Measure exposures associated with repurchase agreements, reverse repos, securities lending, and margin lending transactions where applicable.
- Netting and Collateral: Evaluate the impact of legally enforceable netting agreements, collateral arrangements, margin requirements, and other credit risk mitigation mechanisms on exposure calculations.
- Potential Future Exposure Modeling: Support the development, calibration, and application of exposure models that estimate potential changes in counterparty exposure over relevant time horizons.
- Exposure Aggregation: Consolidate counterparty exposures across trading desks, legal entities, portfolios, products, and jurisdictions while accounting for applicable netting arrangements.
- Limit Monitoring: Monitor exposures against approved counterparty credit limits, investigate limit breaches, and escalate material exceptions according to internal procedures.
- Risk Concentration Analysis: Identify significant exposures, correlated counterparties, sector concentrations, and vulnerabilities arising from market movements or changes in counterparty credit quality.
- Stress Testing: Conduct scenario analysis and stress testing to assess how adverse market conditions, volatility changes, and counterparty deterioration may affect exposure levels.
- Data Reconciliation: Reconcile exposure calculations with trading systems, collateral records, risk engines, and financial reporting outputs to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Regulatory Compliance: Support counterparty credit risk measurement and reporting under applicable UAE requirements and relevant Basel standards, including counterparty credit risk and exposure measurement frameworks where appropriate.
- Model and Methodology Review: Assist with reviewing exposure methodologies, model assumptions, calculation logic, and risk measurement limitations.
- Reporting and Analytics: Prepare regular exposure reports, dashboards, limit utilization summaries, and management analysis for credit risk committees and senior stakeholders.
- Systems and Automation: Work with technology and quantitative teams to improve exposure calculation processes, data integration, system controls, and reporting automation.
- Governance and Documentation: Maintain accurate methodology documentation, exposure records, limit exception logs, reconciliation evidence, and audit trails.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with front-office, middle-office, collateral, legal, finance, and risk teams to resolve exposure issues and improve risk controls.
- Technical Guidance: Provide guidance to junior analysts and contribute to consistent exposure measurement practices across the organization.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Financial Engineering, Quantitative Finance, or a related discipline.
- A master's degree in a quantitative or financial discipline is an advantage.
- At least 5–8 years of relevant experience in counterparty credit risk, exposure measurement, derivatives risk, collateral risk, or quantitative financial risk management.
- Strong understanding of current exposure, potential future exposure, expected exposure, exposure at default (EAD), and related counterparty risk concepts.
- Practical knowledge of derivatives, securities financing transactions, collateral arrangements, margining, and legally enforceable netting agreements.
- Familiarity with Basel counterparty credit risk frameworks, including SA-CCR where applicable, is highly desirable.
- Experience with exposure simulation, market risk factors, scenario analysis, and quantitative exposure modeling is an advantage.
- Proficiency in Excel and SQL, with experience using Python, R, MATLAB, or similar analytical tools preferred.
- Familiarity with risk engines, trading platforms, collateral management systems, and counterparty credit risk reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex exposure discrepancies.
- Understanding of risk governance, data quality controls, regulatory reporting, and audit documentation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- High attention to detail, sound professional judgment, and the ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
- Professional qualifications such as FRM, PRM, CFA, or relevant quantitative risk certifications are an advantage.
Performance will be assessed against agreed risk measurement, control, and reporting objectives, including:
- Exposure Calculation Accuracy: Accuracy and consistency of current exposure, potential future exposure, and related counterparty risk measures.
- Reporting Timeliness: Delivery of exposure reports and limit utilization updates within agreed deadlines.
- Limit Monitoring Effectiveness: Timely identification and escalation of counterparty exposure breaches and near-breaches.
